2020 Pokémon Card Values & Price Guide
2020 began the Sword & Shield era with Pokémon V and VMAX, and it was a Charizard year: Darkness Ablaze, Champion's Path and Japan's Shiny Star V each produced a Charizard that collectors chased.
What this guide includes
This guide currently covers 242 indexed card records across 16 sets and the 2020 release year. The displayed estimate range is $0.02–$3,500. It reflects records available in TCG Value Scanner, not a complete manufacturer checklist.
Values are directional estimates rather than guaranteed sale prices. Read how estimates and scan ranges are produced.

The 2020 English sets
- Sword & Shield (February 2020) introduced Pokémon V and VMAX.
- Rebel Clash (May 1, 2020).
- Darkness Ablaze (August 14, 2020), with Charizard VMAX (#20).
- Champion's Path (September 25, 2020), a special set whose signature cards are the Rainbow Rare Charizard VMAX (#74) and the Shiny Charizard V (#79).
- Vivid Voltage (November 13, 2020), the first set with Amazing Rares.
Three Charizards worth telling apart
The Charizard guide lists every printing we track, but three from 2020 come up most often:
- Champion's Path #74 and #79. Both numbers sit above the set's 73 cards, which is what makes them secret rares. Number 74 is the Rainbow Rare Charizard VMAX; number 79 is the Shiny Charizard V, and in our data it is the more valuable of the two.
- Darkness Ablaze #20. The main-set Charizard VMAX from the same year, numbered within its set and valued well below the Champion's Path secret rares.
- Shiny Star V #308. A Japanese high-class pack released on November 20, 2020, whose shiny Charizard VMAX is the 2020 card scanned most in TCG Value Scanner.
The most valuable card isn't from a set
The top of our 2020 values belongs to a promo: Special Delivery Pikachu (SWSH074), given away in November 2020 to mark the opening of the Pokémon Center's online store in Canada. Sword & Shield Black Star Promos are numbered with an SWSH prefix, so they never share a number with set cards.
Reading a Sword & Shield card
- "V" or "VMAX" follows the Pokémon's name, and a VMAX evolves from the V of the same Pokémon. They are separate cards with separate values.
- A number higher than the set total after the slash means a secret rare.
- English Sword & Shield cards still have yellow borders; the silver border arrived with Scarlet & Violet in 2023.
The Sun & Moon era ended in 2019; Sword & Shield continued through 2021 and 2022.
