2014 Pokémon Card Values & Price Guide
2014 opened the XY era and brought Mega Evolution into the card game, together with the new Fairy type. By May, Flashfire had made Mega Charizard the face of the year.

The four XY sets of 2014
- XY (February 2014) introduced Mega Evolution and the Fairy type; Mega Venusaur and Mega Blastoise arrived with it.
- Flashfire (May 7, 2014) was built around Charizard: 106 cards plus three secret rares, with three Charizard-EX and four Mega Charizard-EX cards.
- Furious Fists (August 13, 2014), home of the Mega Lucario-EX (#113) that ranks high in our 2014 values.
- Phantom Forces (November 5, 2014), whose Gengar (#34) is among its most valuable cards here.
Mega Charizard
Flashfire's Mega Charizard-EX cards lead our 2014 values. Two of them are listed here: number 108, a secret rare beyond the set's 106 cards, and number 69, from the main set. They show the same Pokémon at very different values, so the number on your card matters more than the name. The Charizard guide compares them with every other Charizard we track.
How Mega Evolution cards work
A Mega Evolution card evolves from the Pokémon-EX of the same species and carries "M" before the name, as in M Charizard-EX. Under the rules of the time, Mega Evolving ended the player's turn unless the Pokémon had its Spirit Link card attached. For valuing a card, what matters is simpler: the M card, the EX card it evolves from and the Spirit Link are three separate cards.
Japanese XY sets
The 2014 Japanese releases in this guide — Wild Blaze, Gaia Volcano, Tidal Storm, Rising Fist and Phantom Gate — came out on their own schedule and were split differently from the English sets, so their cards carry their own numbers and values. Gaia Volcano's Electrike is the second most scanned 2014 card in TCG Value Scanner, behind Flashfire's Bergmite.
The year before, 2013, closed the Black & White era; the XY era continued in 2015 with Primal Reversion and BREAK.
