2004 Pokémon Card Values & Price Guide
Every English set of 2004 belongs to the EX series, and each one added a rule collectors still use to read a card — dual-type Pokémon, the Legendary Golem trio as Pokémon-ex, and the first Pokémon Star. EX Hidden Legends is the 2004 set people scan most.

Four sets, four new ideas
- EX Team Magma vs Team Aqua (March 15, 2004) introduced dual-type Pokémon, cards with two types at once, and split many Pokémon between the two villain teams of Ruby and Sapphire. Groudon #9 holds the top 2004 value in this guide, and Claydol #8 is the 2004 card scanned most in TCG Value Scanner.
- EX Hidden Legends (June 14, 2004) brought Regirock, Regice and Registeel into the card game. All three are Pokémon-ex at the end of the numbered list — Regice ex 97/101, Regirock ex 98/101 and Registeel ex 99/101 — and the set's single secret rare is Groudon at 102/101.
- EX FireRed & LeafGreen returned to the original Kanto Pokémon to match the Game Boy Advance remakes.
- EX Team Rocket Returns (November 8, 2004) brought back Dark Pokémon, most of them now dual-typed, and introduced Pokémon Star: rare shiny-colored cards marked with a star next to the name. Dark Crobat #3 and Dark Hypno #6 from this set are here.
Where the value sits
Hidden Legends shows a pattern common in the EX era. Its three Regi cards — Pokémon-ex printed near the end of the numbering — are the set's top values in our data, well above its regular holos. Secret rares, and from Team Rocket Returns on the Pokémon Star cards, belong in that same high bracket, while plain cards and reverse holos sit far below.
So the first check on a 2004 card is the name line. A lowercase "ex" after the name, or a star beside it, puts the card in a different bracket from an ordinary holo of the same Pokémon. The second check is the number: anything above the set's printed total is a secret rare.
Japanese cards from the same year
The Japanese cards in this guide come from that country's own 2004 releases. Beedrill #6 from the Japanese set Flight of Legends is the second most scanned 2004 card here. Japanese cards of this era carry their own set numbers and are valued separately from the English printing.
The EX series started in 2003 and continued through 2005 and 2006.
