2012 Pokémon Card Values & Price Guide
2012 gave the card game three things it still uses: Pokémon-EX, the Dragon type and ACE SPEC Trainer cards. Yet the 2012 cards people scan most come from a 20-card special set, Dragon Vault, and two of its Dratinis lead the list.
What this guide includes
This guide currently covers 74 indexed card records across 13 sets and the 2012 release year. The displayed estimate range is $0.18–$3,255. It reflects records available in TCG Value Scanner, not a complete manufacturer checklist.
Values are directional estimates rather than guaranteed sale prices. Read how estimates and scan ranges are produced.

The English sets of 2012
- Next Destinies (February 8, 2012) introduced Pokémon-EX, written in capitals this time, unlike the lowercase "ex" of 2003–2007. Pikachu #39 from this set is one of the most valuable 2012 cards in this guide.
- Dark Explorers followed in May.
- Dragons Exalted (August 15, 2012) made Dragon a type of its own in the card game. Rayquaza #85 and Roserade #15 are among its cards here.
- Dragon Vault (October 5, 2012) is a special set of Dragon-type Pokémon only.
- Boundaries Crossed (November 7, 2012) introduced ACE SPEC cards: powerful Item cards limited to one per deck.
Why Dragon Vault tops the scans
Dragon Vault was sold only in blister packs, each containing five holofoil cards, and every card in the set is holo. It has 20 numbered cards and one secret rare, Kyurem at 21/20. Dratini #2 is the 2012 card scanned most in TCG Value Scanner and Dratini #1 is second; the set has two different Dratini cards, so the number tells you which one you have.
Because every Dragon Vault card shines, the holo finish says nothing about rarity here. A Dragon Vault Dratini is an ordinary card of its set, whereas a holo in one of the main expansions marks a rare. Compare a Dragon Vault card only with other Dragon Vault copies — Dragonair #4, Rayquaza #11 and Latios #10 are also here.
An old name returns
Boundaries Crossed brought back Computer Search, a Trainer card first printed in the 1999 Base Set, now as one of the first ACE SPEC cards. The two cards share a name and almost the same effect, but Base Set's is #71 of the original set, while the 2012 card is #137 of Boundaries Crossed with the modern frame and the ACE SPEC label. They are valued completely separately, so a scan has to match the set as well as the name.
The Japanese cards in this guide, from sets such as Dark Rush and Dragon Blade, came out ahead of their English counterparts; Krookodile #55 from Dragon Blade carries the highest 2012 value here.
Full Art cards arrived the year before, in 2011; the Black & White series ended in 2013.
